Preventing Childhood Obesity



Due to our eating habits, lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle that most people have our children are now suffering the consequences, our generation has the biggest amount of obese child and this has serious health issues. For the Preventing Childhood Obesity project, CEP worked with the clinical lead, Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, and a clinical working group. The prevalence of child obesity has steadily increased in Western and developing countries over the last two decades, and child obesity prevention is now firmly on the agendas of nearly all major governments.

In accordance with the evidence-based 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans ( USDA DHHS 2010 ), the intervention will emphasize key obesity prevention messages: reducing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, limiting fast food and decreasing time spent in sedentary pursuits.

Some promising approaches include offering government financial incentives, such as grants, loans, and tax benefits, to stimulate the development of neighborhood grocery stores; developing community and school gardens; establishing farmers' markets; and supporting farm-to-school and farm-to-cafeteria programs.
